Melasma

Melasma are caused by excessive deposits of melanin in parts of the face in the course of lifetime. In general, women in their 30s get light or dark brown freckles below the eyes, around the cheekbones, and at the cheeks, foreheads, noses and upper lips due to pigmented lesions. There can be various factors causing freckles, such as pregnancy, genes, stress, endocrine diseases and hormones, but the biggest reason is ultraviolet rays.
Freckles usually occur to women in their 30s, but they can also appear on the skin of women in their 20s who are frequently exposed to environmental changes and sun rays. Freckles also occur to men who are exposed to serious stress.

Categorization according to depth of pigment

      01. Epidermis-type freckles (freckles shallowly deposited at epidermis of skin surface)
      02. Thick skin-type freckles (freckles deposited deeply into thick skin)
      03. Mixed-type freckles (freckles deposited at both epidermis and thick skin)

There are no detectable symptoms indicating a vulnerability to freckles, but persons with darker skin can get broader and darker freckles. Freckles worsen in the spring and summer, when people are exposed to strong sun rays, and get better in the fall and winter

Freckles have become one of the biggest skin problems for women aged 30 or older, and are difficult to treat because there are various reasons for their occurrence.

Epidermis-type freckles are easily treated by applying whitening products. Unfortunately, most freckles appearing in Koreans and Asians are thick skin-type and mixed-type freckles with deeply deposited pigments, so the treatment of freckles can take a great deal of time and show limited effects.

Mirae Laser Clinic can produce satisfactory effects by using Revlite and chemical peeling, Vitaliont and Vital management to treat freckles.

Nevus of Ota-Like Macule, Bilateral Nevus of Ota-Like Macule

What is bilateral nevus of Ota-like macule?

Bilateral nevus of Ota-like macule, a disease causing pigmented moles on the skin due to the existence of melanin cells that produce pigment in the thick skin, is a kind of spot. Dark gray or brown specks appear at the cheekbones, below the eyes, around the nose and at both edges of the forehead, like freckles after puberty. Most people mistake them for freckles, and they generally appear in persons in their 20s and 30s. Unlike freckles, they can appear in younger persons after puberty. Unlike brown freckles, they are slate-grey. Freckles are wide brown specks, but these look like a gathering of bean-sized round grey specks.

Plus Tip

  • The origin of Ota-like macule – This name was given because a Japanese doctor, Ota, first discovered it.
  • Symptoms of Ota-like macule – Brown or blue spots appear around the eyes, the temple, forehead and nose.
  • They usually exist from birth, but can also appear after birth, and tend to darken gradually after puberty. Most of them are unilateral, but about 10% are bilateral. They don’t disappear naturally, so they will last for a lifetime if left untreated.

Freckles / Age sots / Blemishes

What is a freckle?

CFreckles are a pigment disease. Specks like sesame seeds appear in countless number on parts of the skin exposed to sunlight, such as the face, neck and shoulders. Pigment systematically spreads to the skin epidermis layer.

Freckles generally begin to appear in elementary school students, increase as kids enter puberty, and are common in women in their teens to twenties. Parents, brothers and sisters and close relatives of some freckles patients will also have freckles, because freckles are inherited. In general, freckles easily appear in persons who have pale skin and who are easily burnt by the sun. Ultraviolet rays in the sunshine can
stimulate melanin cells contained in the skin and aggravate freckles.

What are age spots and blemishes?

Age spots and blemishes are a group of skin-aging pigmented skin diseases that usually appear in faces chronically exposed to ultraviolet rays. Blemishes appear as marks after sudden exposure to the sun, or as dermatitis, folliculitis and external injuries. Age spots, which appear as a phenomenon of skin-aging problems, look uneven mantises or appear as brown, flat, and round specks. They are caused by excessively thickly growing epidermis and deposits of pigment.

The ultraviolet rays begin in spring, become strongest in summer and weaken in winter. As a result, freckles and blemishes also seriously appear in spring and summer and may be eased in winter. In addition to getting treatment, it is important to prevent the skin from becoming dark by blocking ultraviolet rays.
